Cane Corso - Roman Dog of War

Cane Corso is originated in Italy. Its direct ancestor is the Roman Dog of War "Canis Pugnax" (the old Roman Molossian). It is a powerful, loyal, durable, extremely agile, virtually fearless and very athletic breed qualifying it to be the "auxiliary warrior" in battles and a gladiator in the Coliseum.

Throughout the Middle Ages, the couragous Cane Corso's muscular and energetic traits proved to be of great use to hunters of wild boar, bear, and other large animals. The confident and faithful protectors were also used to accompany stagecoaches and couriers to ward off bandits that sought to rob them. Cane Corsos are highly intelligent dogs and are already starting to fill positions in law enforcement once held by German Shepherds and other breeds.
